Update on "Lydia" the Christmas Island Frigatebird

I've done allot of research on this unique bird and made some changes to the Google Earth tour I made earlier (see earlier post). As it turns out there are two Christmas Islands and I visited the wrong ocean, even though Google Earth has a built in compass you can still get lost. : )

Change Log:

1/19/06
Added an enhanced map of Christmas Island.
Added a Breeding Grounds map overlaying the above map.
Added placemarks of the Christamas Island Frigatebird's Breeding Grounds.
Added a link to a movie w/audio of the Christmas Island Frigatebird. (note: it is widely belived that this bird only makes sounds when its in its bredding grounds.
Added many more pictures of the Christams Island Frigatebird to various placemarks.
Added 2 more Volcanoes that were near Lydia's flight path and a brief description about these volcanoes.

Update on Early PA Migration Tour

I have made some changes to this tour...all the changes are as folows:

12/26/05 - 

1. Improved organization of some placemarks.
2. Added description to Hanna's Town, see Forbes Road.
3. Added new folder for all images.
4. Added a description to the Indian Land Cessations image overlay.
5. Improved multiple placemarks "Snapshot View".
6. Added Placemark for Chief Nemacolin's Castle, See Braddock's Rd.
7. Added Placemark for the Meadowcroft Rockshelter to a New Folder called PA Historical sites. These are for sites that are not really associated with my main theme of this project of Early PA Migration.

"Lydia" the Christmas Island Frigatebird

I know, this isn't related to Geneaolgy, but it is in the Christmas spirit, so I am posting it here. Its also posted at the Google Earth Community forum.

The story of Lydia's flight to get food for her "chick" has been all over the news. I found it really intriguing, being the Christmas season, and Christmas Island.

It's also interesting that Lydia was off in search of food and went to such lengths to get it. Kind of makes you think she did this without any thought of receiving anything in return. I'd say that's truly in the Christmas spirit.

This took a long time to put together and I hope you all like it. The path for "Lydia" was laid out using the Polygon tool, and an image overlay published by BirdLife International who is conducting this research by a grant from the USA.

You can even see the volcanoes that "Lydia" flew over (near).

Early PA Migration

This is a more advanced use of Google Earth. If this generates enough interest I will post more on how I created it...to this point and points beyond.

I have spent a lot of time putting together this project on Early PA Migration, and I believe its finally ready to go public. What I am doing is mapping the migration of the early settlers of PA here on Google Earth and Indian villages from the Cessation days. Please keep in mind that this is an ongoing project and I expect to never be fully complete with it, as its concept keeps evolving.

As of now I have this tour start at the Port Of PA and moving westward via the various trails/paths that existed between the periods of about 1750 through 1850. I am also mapping out the various forts and Indian villages of that time period.
